Tarbat
The picturesque village of Portmahomack straddles the top of the Tarbatness Peninsula, which is dominated by the Tarbatness Lighthouse, the second tallest lighthouse in Scotland. Further round the point is the beautiful village of Rockfield, nestling in the lea of a 100 foot cliff.Portmahomack, which reputedly enjoys the lowest rainfall in Britain, is the only East coast village which faces West, with a beautiful horse-shoe shaped Blue Flag Award Beach, with a unique harbour and excellent fishing.
The village boasts a well-tended 9 hole links golf course, 2 hotels, a renowned seafood restaurant, a caravan site and a friendly village shop and Post Office and several B & B establishment. The village is also the home of the Tarbat Discovery Centre, the heart of the now famous Pictish archaeological site, which every summer is further excavated by York University.
